Annual Governance Statement for the Governing Body of Bromley Hills Primary School
In accordance with the government's requirement for all governing bodies, the 4 core Strategic functions of Bromley Hills Primary School are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
- Oversee the financial performance of the school and ensuring value for money.
- Promote the highest possible standards for safeguarding.
The Governing Body of Bromley Hills primary school was re-constituted in 2015. It is made up of the headteacher, 1 staff governor, 2 Parent Governors and 5 Co-opted governors. Co-opted governors are people, in the opinion of the governing body, who have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

When/how the Governing Body meets
The Full Governing Body meets 4 times each term. Twice at agenda meetings held at 6pm and twice a term for half or full days in school to meet with pupils and staff. We have 2 committees that look after Staff Pay/ Appeals and others can be set up if required for a specific reason such as pupil discipline. When we meet we discuss a range of topics and issues that affect Bromley Hills Primary school. Each governor has a different role and responsibility within their remit such as data, SEND or Foundation Stage.
Attendance record of Governors
The Governors are committed to their roles and a meeting has never been cancelled because it was not 'quorate' (the number of governors needed to ensure that decisions are legal). All meetings are planned well in advance by the governors to ensure good attendance.
Lead Roles of Governors
The Governors take a lead role on all areas, particularly Safeguarding, Data, Performance, Attainment, Pupil and PE/Sports Premium and Finance. We come into school to meet with the staff and pupils to ensure the effectiveness of the termly Raising Attainment Plan (RAP). Governors then write a report which is uploaded to our Governor Cloud which can be accessed by all governors.
The work we have done in the last year
The Governing Body has had another busy year, with the introduction of the assessment without levels system and the new baseline introduction for our Reception pupils. Governors have supported the introduction of eLearning journeys in our Foundation Stage unit and have seen this effective approach in action during Governor visits.
We have also seen the introduction of the outstanding handwriting programme, 'Kinetic Letters', across the whole school and the impact this has had.
We oversee the school budget, with the elected Governor attending each meeting, ensuring value for money in all decisions. The Governors receive detailed reports about Health and Safety and all Safeguarding matters and review impact and effectiveness. We review and adopt school policies and these can be found on the website or by contacting the school office.
Future plans of the Governing Body
Along with continuing to evaluate the impact of these new initiatives in school, the Governing Body is investigating options and the best course of action for Bromley Hills to take, in respect of the national agenda regarding academies.
How you can contact the Governing Body
